How to Make It

Step 1

Mai tais are typically made with something called orgeat syrup. Instead, you’ll be making your own similar flavor blend using almond extract, rose water or rose flavoring, and liquid stevia. Additionally, choose both a light and dark rum for the recipe that you will want to use.

Step 2

Combine only the light rum, all the lime juice, lemon juice, orange juice, almond extract, rose water, and liquid stevia into a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously until you feel the drink turn cold in your hands. Fill a new, large glass with ice and strain the mai tai over the ice.

Step 3

To finish the drink, pour the dark rum over the top of the drink. Don’t stir the rum in, but let it naturally float down. Enjoy your cold drink garnished with a wedge of orange or lemon.

  • Rum – 1 fl oz
  • Lime Juice Raw – 0.5 lime yields
  • Lemon Juice Raw – 1 lemon yields
  • Orange juice – 0.5 each – juice from one orange
  • Almond extract – 0.13 tsp
  • Rose Water – 0.13 tbsps
  • Liquid stevia – 7 Drop
  • Rum – 1 fl oz
