How to Make It

Step 1

Add the ground almonds, baking soda, turmeric, cumin, coriander, salt, pepper and lemon juice to a food processor. Pulse to combine.

Step 2

Add the egg and blend to a smooth thick paste. Transfer to a mixing bowl.

Step 3

Finely slice the onion and add to the bowl with the batter. Stir well, so that the onion and batter are combined.

Step 4

Heat the oil in a small saucepan over a high heat. Once hot, scoop a tablespoon of the onion and batter mixture at a time and very carefully spoon into the pan. You should be able to fry 3 bhajis at a time. Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden and crisp, then repeat with the remaining batter. Carefully transfer the cooked bhajis to a sheet of kitchen paper to soak up the excess oil.

  • Olive Oil For Frying – 1 x 2 cups
  • White Onion – 1 medium – 2 1/2″ diameter
  • Lemon Juice – 1 teaspoon
  • Raw Egg – 1 small
  • Cumin, Ground – 1 teaspoon
  • Ground Coriander – 1 teaspoon
  • Food Cupboard Home Baking Almonds Ground by Sainsbury’s – 2 ounce
  • Baking Soda – ½ teaspoon
  • Turmeric, Ground – ½ teaspoon
  • Salt, Sea Salt – ¼ teaspoon
  • Black Pepper – ⅛ teaspoon
