How to Make It

Step 1

Remove whole tempeh from its packaging, and pat it dry with a paper towel. Cut the tempeh into small, rectangular pieces (8 ounces of tempeh should make 16 pieces). Add all the pieces to a bowl, and pour soy sauce over them. Toss the tempeh in the soy sauce with a spoon and place the bowl in your refrigerator.

Step 2

Marinate the tempeh for at least 30 minutes, but you may marinate longer. About every 10 minutes, use your spoon to toss the tempeh in the soy sauce so it continues soaking it up. After the tempeh marinades, combine tapioca flour and nutritional yeast together in a separate dish. Sprinkle the mixture over the tempeh, and toss the pieces until they’re coated in the dry mixture.

Step 3

Turn on your air fryer to preheat to 350 F (180 C). Once it’s hot, arrange the tempeh in the air fryer on a tray. Cook the tempeh for about 8-10 minutes. Simply watch the tempeh turn golden brown and get darkened edges all around. The tempeh only needs to cool down for a minute or two before you can eat it.
