Keto Condiments and Sauces: What to Buy and What to Make
Condiments are keto’s most dangerous category — packed with hidden sugar — but also one of the most important for flavour. Here is the definitive guide to keto-compatible condiments.
Buy: Full-Fat Mayonnaise
Real mayonnaise (Hellmann’s Real, Kewpie) is 0–1g carbs per tablespoon and perfect for keto. Avoid “light” varieties which replace fat with sugar.
Buy: Dijon Mustard
Most Dijon mustards are very low carb (0–1g per tablespoon). Rich in flavour and excellent on meats and in dressings.
Buy: Tabasco and Hot Sauces
Most classic hot sauces (Tabasco, Frank’s RedHot) are zero carbs. Check sweet chilli and sriracha carefully — both can be high in sugar.
Make: Hollandaise and Béarnaise
These classic egg-and-butter sauces are naturally keto, impossibly luxurious, and take 10 minutes to make.
Make: Garlic Herb Butter
Soften butter, mix with garlic, parsley, thyme, and lemon zest. Roll in cling film. Refrigerate. Melt a slice over any protein instantly.
