Cut the tomato into slices of medium thickness and slice the burger buns in half. To a mixing bowl, add the ground beef, black pepper, and salt. Mix with your hands or a wooden spoon until the seasoning is well incorporated into the ground beef.
Separate the mince into 2 equal portions and form each portion into a burger patty. You can use your hand to form the round patties or a big round cookie cutter. Season each patty with a sprinkle of salt. When cooked, this will give the patties a tasty golden crust on the outside.
Preheat the pan over medium heat. Add the olive oil, then place the burger patties on the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side. Turn the heat to low and continuously slather the barbecue sauce on each side of the patties. Cook on low for another 1 minute until the barbecue sauce thickens and the patties are well coated in the sauce.
Begin assembling the burgers. To each half of the buns, spread ½ tbsp mayonnaise. Then, add the lettuce, burger patties, sliced tomatoes, and finally, place the top half of the bun on top.
Serve with your sauce of choice. Store any leftover burgers in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. Before reheating, remove the vegetables from the burgers and reheat them in the microwave for 30 to 40 seconds.
